SIX DEGREES MOVEMENT STUDIO  204 Spadina Ave.

Spring time is wood time, the element associated with the Liver and Gallbladder energies in Traditional Chinese Medicine. This is the time of year where we experience the most new growth in the external world and a lot of strong internal shifting of energies which if blocked may manifest as increased irritability, headaches, digestive upsets or neck and shoulder stiffness.  The ability to remain flexible while maintaining a strong creative vision for our future,  in other words, the ability to “go with the flow”  is the hallmark of a healthy Wood Element- hence the term Free and Easy Wanderer that is associated with a healthy Wood Element.

This spring, join Julie a licensed Acupuncturist, and experienced yoga teacher for a slow flowing practice inspired by the energies of the Spring Season.  Our practice will incorporate yin yoga with some long held postures to release deep seated tensions and restore energy that can be dissipated in our lives through stress and busyness.  There will be a  focus on spinal flexibility, liver and digestive health, back, neck and shoulder tension relief, and opening to new creative possibilities.

INTRODUCTION TO THE CHAKRA SYSTEM
HATHA YOGA + YIN YOGA

Within our physical and emotional being lies hidden energy, wisdom, love, power and other gifts waiting to be discovered. Our mysterious physical and emotional symptoms such as constriction, tightness, tension, anxiety, discomfort, feelings of mild depression or fear may be trying to communicate something important about the state of our wholeness and wellness. Through Yoga postures, Alchemical meditation practices, and free writing time, we will move through the Chakra system and explore the central questions, emotional resonances and physical holding patterns of each one such as identity, stability, will, sensuality, creativity, power, motivation, love, connection vulnerability, expression, communication, vision and intuition.
These practices are designed to uncover the hidden information contained within our fascia, muscles and cells and in our energetic centres (chakras). This practice of transformation and integration is an expression of the Alchemical practice of transforming Lead into Gold.
As a culture we have spent a lot of time developing our mental faculties, and we tend to spend the majority of our lives living in our heads, trying to figure things out logically. As a result we often miss the important messages our body’s are trying to communicate. This disconnect can be the root of feelings of anxiety, unease and mild depression. Alchemical Yoga helps us to to reveal more information about our body's holding patterns and to begin a new process of relating and communication between the conscious and subconscious aspects of our being. This workshop provides an opportunity to foster deeper relationship between the rational and the intuitive aspects of our being and to foster a way of being that is more compassionate, accepting, energetic and grounded.

As we move into the last weekend of August,  we can witness the world around us transitioning from the Fire element to the Earth element, as the brilliant late summer flowers bloom and we begin to reap the bounty from this year's  harvest and nourish our bodies and eyes on the bright colours and delicious flavours of the season.  In our own lives this can sometimes be a period of  transition from sociability, freedom and exploration on summer vacations and travel, to buckling down in preparation for new projects and the back to school mentality.   This time of transition is true for me as I integrate some of the beautiful sights and experiences of nature I took in during my August travels to the Charlevoix region of Quebec, whale watching, star gazing and campfire cooking,  followed by an intensive yoga weekend at Wanderlust Yoga Festival in Mont-Tremblant.
The Gladstone Acupuncture office is now re-opened for the year, in the lovely interdisciplinary Annex Health & Wellness clinic on Bloor St. just opposite Honest Ed's!  I'm gearing up for a new year and a new schedule.  I am happy to now be offering 3 days of treatments in the new space: Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.   I look forward to continuing my work this year in supporting my clients in their wellness goals, in preventative medicine, living in balance, creative richness and expression and respect for the cycles of nature.
This year I am continuing to deepen my studies in the Level II Alchemical Healing Mentorship with Lorie Dechar and Benjamin Fox as we explore more deeply Western Depth psychology including Dream Work, Shadow work,  Archetypes and Mythology as conduits to deeper understanding of wholeness and living life more fully.
Periods of transition are exciting but sometimes require extra creativity and ingenuity as well as extra care and mindfulness so that we can learn to move fluidly, flexibly but with strength and integrity.  If you need a little extra support this season, please book an appointment or a series of sessions and experience a session which helps you to tap into your own well of wisdom and wellbeing.

The Fire Element & The Heart Spirits.

Welcome to Summer at Gladstone Acupuncture & Creative Wellness.  Summer is the time of the Fire Element where the heart spirits "the Shen" are most active.  This is a social, outwardly oriented time of year and as such, sometimes we need to tend to our Shen.  According to Traditional Chinese Medicine Mythology, the Shen are born from the stars and are scooped into our hearts at birth infusing us with our life sprit.  When the Shen are healthy, we sleep well, we experience a balanced range of emotions, we have good boundaries and healthy relationships and excellent connection to self and intuition.  When the Shen are out of balance we may experience insomnia, anxiety, heart palpitations, skin disorders, depression, loss of creativity, loss of spark.  If you think your Shen may need some attention, give us a call and arrange an appointment to balance your energy through Acupuncture, Reiki or body work.

Streams, Sprouts & Dreams: Spring Health and Wellness

The ice starts to melt, seeds to sprout and intentions begin to form. Springtime is about renewal, movement and tapping into the fresh, upward rising energy of the Wood Element.

The energy of this season is associated with the liver and gallbladder and is extremely potent.  When in balance it can gift us with positive growth, emotional balance and equanimity, new ideas, dreaming, vision, a vivid imagination, ability to implement plans for the future and find ones true path. With all of this upward moving energy at play around us though it's not uncommon to experience an increase in the unhealthy expression of the Wood element and a liver out of balance from excesses accumulated during the sluggish winter months with symptoms like headaches, migraines, irritability, emotional outbursts, menstrual difficulty, mood swings, digestive upsets and more pronounced tension in the neck and shoulders and of course seasonal allergies.  If you need help finding balance this season please don't hesitate to be in touch and inquire about how acupuncture and the wisdom of Traditional Chinese Medicine may be able to benefit your health and wellness both physical and emotionally. Happy Spring! xo Julie

Happy New Year!... and Hibernation Mode?
I hope everyone has had a joyous and restful holidays.  It's a new year according to the calender, but with the transition into the dark and cold of Canadian winter it can sometimes be tricky to capture that rejuvenated, motivated feeling when many of us are perhaps feeling sluggish from too much indulgence over the holidays or maybe feel like going into hibernation until spring.

Rest as Preventative Medicine

If this sounds familiar, you are not alone! Winter is the season to rest, rejuvenate and discover the potency of stillness and receptivity. The desire to rest is very in keeping with the Yin energy of the winter season and getting plenty of sleep and taking it easy (like the trees and bears)  is one way we can nourish ourselves, protect our reserves, regenerate our vital forces  and live in harmony with the season while preparing the body for action and health in the spring.

If you need an extra boost this winter, we offer Acupuncture, Massage, and Yoga designed to enhance your seasonal wellness

ACUPUNCTURE TO SUPPORT CHANGE & SEASONAL HEALTH!

Whether it be ideas, old structures,  hurts or holding patterns, this is a time of year where we can start to let go of that which no longer serves us in order to create a space for new possibilities.  Acupuncture + massage can be an excellent support for moving through times of transition with grace and ease.    Autumn is a also a good time to support the immune system, respiratory and digestive health.  With the darkening days, many people experience a drop in energy and mood.  Acupuncture can be a very effective way to boost immunity, energy, motivation and emotional well being.

MONDAYS 6:00- 7:15pm
As the days darken and shorten, we invite our awareness, our hearts and minds to turn towards our inner landscape with introspection and reverence. In keeping with the energy of the season, this session  we will use hatha yoga, yin yoga and mindfulness meditation to create connections between the unconscious and conscious, instinct and dream with awareness and will.
These practices support the transformation of the fear of emptiness into the spacious serenity of not knowing.
This is a time of year that supports the letting go of that which no longer serves us;  concepts, people, ideas, old structures,  hurts or holding patterns in order to embrace new possibilities. Through long held poses, we will explore concepts of stability, ease, flexibility,  transition and the connections between physical tension, holding patterns, emotions and habits and
l learn how to make space in our bodies, breath and minds so that we can open gracefully towards change, new directions and possibilities.
